Our Story 

Our story stems from humble beginnings back in 1990 when Chris Maka poured his first concrete driveway. As an immigrant from Tonga, Chris understood the value of honest, hard work from a young age. Working various jobs his entire life, he got small tastes of the American Dream with every new opportunity he sought. So when he heard that someone in town needed their driveway replaced, he saw it as an opportunity to expand his skill set and strengthen his presence in the local community.

 On that first job he was given multiple hours to complete the job. This was the beginning of the standard Chris set for his company and his family. Chris was able to demo the asphalt from the existing driveway in a mere 30 minutes. Naturally, word spread of Chris’ quality craftsmanship and willingness to go that extra mile, even if that meant going above and beyond the scope of the project. His first company, Hawaii Concrete, was born from the simple fact that Chris would do whatever it took to satisfy his customers. Early on, that meant pouring concrete all day and laying bricks at night, all while still finding time for a round of basketball the next morning. His willingness to go the extra mile attracted more people to seek his business, including homeowners from the Parade of Homes of Idaho. For 20 years straight Chris’s work was featured in at least one home every year.

Transforming to Kaliber Construction

In the 2010s, Chris began teaching his son David on managing the business. His focus on quality and craftsmanship resonated with every employee that was part of Hawaii Construction. In 2018, David & Rachel Maka and Trevor Boynton took over and transformed the business to Kaliber Construction. 30 years after Chris made his first driveway in the U.S., the spirit of his hard work lives on in the company today.
